Isaiah 40:29

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”

Personal note: I looked up that word, “power” in Hebrew. It’s koah and other than strength, power and might, it can mean a small lizard. I did a little more research and the koah is known as a desert monitor. It hibernates quite a bit and spends most of its time underground. They are cold-blooded and need the sun to warm their bodies. So, how does power and strength apply here? Well, when we’re down-and-out, having little hope, what do most people do? They hide.

  • How marvelous You are, Lord, to constantly be watching over us, seeking our company, and desiring Your perfect plan for our lives. (Jer 29:11)
  • When we are weak, YOU are strong. (2 Cor 13:9) When our energy is zapped and we can’t go on, You are there to pick us up and point the way forward. Jesus, You are the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. (John 14:6)
  • Today we lift up those who are discouraged, those who are under demonic attack, those who suffer from illness, those who have painful relationships, and we ask for Your presence and comfort in the their lives.
  • Raise up warriors and heroes to speak for those who can’t find their voice or have cried so long, their cries are no longer heard. You hear every cry and You treasure every tear. (Ps 56:8) Inflame our hearts towards righteousness and truth. Help us to be Your hands and feet.
  • Expand our hearts with Your compassion. Provide opportunities to show Your love.
  • You never tire. You are never weary or faint, but You know our frailty. We need Your encouragement to go on, to climb higher, and to reach further for ourselves and others.

Isaiah 40:26

“Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.”

Personal note: OMG as the saying goes! Can you just imagine anyone on this earth in all its ancient and recent history being able to do something like this? No way, no sir, couldn’t happen. Only a GREAT God could do something like this! I close my eyes and just imagine His throne room as He looks upon our night sky and says: “Come, Orion, Ursa Major-over there and Ursa Minor-just there, give Little Dipper a little more room and make sure your North Star is visible to the sea vessels. Leo, you roar over this area and Crux, shine your southern cross the brightest tonight.” (See 5 Constellations)

  • Oh Lord, how magnificent you are! You determine the number of the stars and name each one. (Ps 147:4)
  • We bow our heads in amazement that out of the billions of souls now living on this earth, You see each soul individually and You’ve tracked them all day long, moment by moment and have thought about each and every one of them. (Ps 139:18)
  • Forgive us for making You so small. Forgive us for losing sight of Your power, Your creativity, Your marvelous ways. Forgive us for taking Your creation and our world for granted.
  • Help us to be mindful of You throughout our days and nights. Don’t let one day pass without acknowledging our gratitude for what You’ve given to us.
  • Just as You’ve named each star, You know the names of every person-past, present, and future. Today we call upon Your mercy to draw each lost soul to You. As they look up into the night sky, let their wonderment be new again. Let them ask “If there is a God…” and You answer, “Yes, I am.” Holy Spirit, speak to their hearts about Jesus. Cause divine appointments, speak to them in dreams, use a song, a conversation, a message, whatever will speak to them.
  • We marvel at Your world and ask for Your mercy on those areas facing natural disasters from fire, wind, floods, and hurricanes. Protect first-responders, cause provisions to be sent, guard lives and property, and be a help to Your people.

Isaiah 40:13

“Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord? Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him?”

Personal note: Whoa! Didn’t that Scripture just grip you? I immediately thought of yesterday’s reference to Job 38. There are certain times when we just have to say, “You’re God and I’m not!” In these uncertain times when our earthly perspective isn’t enough, I need wisdom from above. I may have the information, but do I have the best answer? It’s at this point, when I lay my needs at His feet and await His response, that I truly surrender to Wisdom. This awesome privilege becomes my peace, my comfort, and yes, my faith and trust in Him and His direction. (I posted lecture notes yesterday about Heavenly Wisdom. You might enjoy them.)

  • There is no one like You. You created the heavens and the earth by and through Your wisdom. Thank You for such a beautiful world to enjoy.
  • From the beginning of time, Your eternal wisdom has drawn us to You. You are always calling us closer. Speak loud and clear so we don’t miss You and the opportunities You present to us in our every day lives.
  • Your wisdom is supreme. We ask that You pour out Your wisdom upon our governmental leaders and representatives, on our pastors and teachers, on our educators, and on all people of influence. Whether they ask for it or not, WE ask for them!
  • Take the masks off fools and false teachers. Expose the enemy’s lies and deceit. Uncover the enemy’s tactics. Help us to be aware and be pro-active.
  • Destroy selfish pride and know-it-all attitudes. Shut the roaring mouths of those who advise or teach anything contrary to Heaven’s principles. Expose the doctrines of demons. Uncover their strategies.
  • Remind us that we do not pray against people, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Eph 6) Enlighten us. Guide our prayers. Cause us to receive revelation in Your Word.
  • By Your Spirit activated in us, we put on the armor of God daily. Prepare us for battle. Show us Your battle plans and give us courage to fight the good fight. Give us the words to share the Good News with others. (1 Tim 6:12)
  • Thank You Holy Spirit that You are Comforter, Teacher, Spirit of Truth, Spirit of Love, Reconciler… and best of all, You draw us to Jesus. (John 16:13, Rom 8:16)
  • Help us daily to yield our minds and hearts to You. Encourage us to release Your living rivers for ourselves and others. Embolden us with Your fire.

John 16:33 — Be of Good Cheer!

All day I was troubled with someone’s possible loss, when with all my heart I thought the news would be the opposite. I prayed, I interceded, I pleaded, I cried. Finally, with a heavy heart, I decided to run an errand that would put me in my car for 40 minutes, listening to worship music. I continued to pray. Read more
