The Hot Seat

Death Valley

Death Valley

Quite some time ago, I had a wonderful “lesson” from the Holy Spirit. I’d felt the need for some quiet time with the Lord and decided on taking a walk. After some time, I sat on a cable TV box to enjoy the view and really “do some praying”. After only a few minutes, I started squirming. The metal box was hot from the sun. I found myself so uncomfortable, that I got up and started walking again.

I had to laugh at myself. Here I was “communing” with the Lord and I couldn’t take it… being on the “hot seat”. I felt that little nudge on my shoulder and realized the Holy Spirit was showing me a bit of my nature. Every time I’m in an uncomfortable situation, either with Him or others, I manage to get up and get away as fast as I can.

I’ve heard it said that if you’re moving on with God, you will be “un”comfortable. Interesting. If I’m uncomfortable with correction, or turn away and don’t receive it, then the benefits of such a correction might be lost. Sooner or later, I’ll be going around that mountain again, facing the same hot seat. I guess it’s better to take the heat and stay in the kitchen with the Chief Cook.
